Obituary of Ronnie Emmett Ayers

Ronnie Emmett Ayers, 61, passed away August 12, 2018 at Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his family.  The family is honoring Ronnie’s wishes and there will not be a service at this time.

Ronnie was born October 21, 1956, to the late Jesse Emmett Ayers and Phoebe Turner Ayers in Patrick County, VA.  His childhood was spent in Winston-Salem, where he attended Forsyth County Schools.  After finishing school at North Forsyth High School, Ronnie joined the Army National Guard.  He spent the years following his service in the Dayton, OH area.  Ronnie returned to Winston-Salem in 2001 and reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Gloria Dawn Brown, in May of 2002. Ronnie and Dawn lived in Danbury, NC together for over 16 years.

Ronnie enjoyed gardening, canning food, cooking, and eating.  Ronnie loved his dogs and watching movies.  One of his greatest accomplishments was raising his son Anthony Brookshire while he was living in Ohio.  Ronnie had a great smile.  He loved being with people and having good conversation.  Ronnie was a unique individual that lived life “wide open”.

Survivors include the love of his life, Dawn Brown, of the home; a son, Anthony Brookshire and family; Dawn’s children, Cale Brown and Lori Gibson; many grandchildren; brothers: William “Billy” D. Plaster,  Donald K. Ayers and Sheila, and Michael W. Ayers and Patti, aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Ronnie’s “second family” at LifeBrite Hospital in Danbury for their loving care and patience over the years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ronnie’s honor to the charity of your choice.
