Obituary of Horace "Dick" Smothers

Mr. Horace V. “Dick” Smothers, Jr. died August 15, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

A Celebration of his life will be 2:00PM Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Oaklawn Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Boyce officiating the service.

The family will visit with friends 1 hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Dick was born November 1, 1942 to the late Horace Sr. and Edna Smothers. A native of Forsyth county, Dick grew up playing Baseball. He played fast pitch softball for many years and was really passionate about the game. The Atlanta Braves was his favorite team to watch. Dick was a faithful member of Oaklawn Baptist church for many years. He loved his church family and really enjoyed teaching his Sunday school class. Dick was a people person, and he never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his younger sister Loretta Kay Smothers.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Smothers; daughter Tammy Smothers Mueller; Son Vic Smothers and wife Gwen; brothers David Smothers and Rick Woollen and wife Kay; sister Jane Sechrist and five grandchildren, Erica, Easton, Chris, Jordan and Lacy.
