Obituary of Rebecca Gray Idol

On Saturday morning, September 22, 2018 the Angels of God swept low in the “sweet chariot” from Heaven above and carried Rebecca “Becky” Ellen Gray Idol to her eternal home.

Funeral Services celebrating her life will be held 11:00AM Thursday September 27, 2018 at Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Wednesday evening at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel in Kernersville.

Becky was born in Guilford County September 7, 1931 to the late John Sanford Gray and Annie Rayle Gray. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, William R. “Bill” Idol who died January 15th of this year, and brothers Vannie Eugene Gray and Paul David Gray.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Charles Reid Idol; sisters and brothers-in-laws Gail Lawson and Joel, Kathryn Motsinger and J.R., and Anne Wise and Larry; numerous nieces, nephews, and special friend and “adopted” daughter, Linda Rosselle.

Becky grew up on a farm in rural Guilford County. While growing up she learned the value of hard work, staying at it until the job was done, and most importantly how to love and take care of those around her.

Becky graduated from Colfax High School. Following High School, she would marry the love of her life Bill Idol. For most of her life she worked for AT&T Technologies at various locations in the Piedmont Triad area, including the Guilford Center.

Throughout her life Becky developed a gift that is very rare in today’s world, giving back to others without expecting anything in return. She was always busy with her hands, knitting, crocheting, needle point and baking homemade desserts using the freshest home grown fruits available. It was not uncommon for her to bake a fresh apple cake, or Strawberry pie and surprise a coworker on their birthday with the pie.

Becky taught neighbors and relatives how to knit and bake too. She volunteered her time during the latter part of her life to High Point Regional Health Care Knitters, where she knitted hats for newborn babies.

On behalf of the family, close friends, and extended family, Reid would like to express thanks to the entire staff of Brookdale High Point North Memory Care, and to Community Homecare and Hospice of Asheboro for their compassionate care of Becky during her residency.
