Donald Kenneth Smith, 80, passed away November 20, 2018 with his daughter Ginger, and dear friend Penny Sutton, by his side.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday November 24, 2018 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel.
A native of Montgomery County, North Carolina, Don was the son of the late Ruby Mauldin Smith and Kermit Leonard Smith. Don was raised in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School. Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Crew Chief, while stationed in El Paso, Texas. Don married the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Dark on June 12, 1960. They moved back to the Triad in 1962 and began a career with Eastern Airlines that lasted over 26 years. He began a second career with Old Dominion Freight Lines as a truck driver, where one of his proudest accomplishments was being recognized for driving a million miles without an accident.
Don was known for his love of the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. His greatest love, however, was that for his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dark Smith.
