Obituary of Joyce S. DeVane

Mrs. Joyce S. DeVane, 81, passed away December 24, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A Graveside Service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at First Lutheran Church Memorial Garden, 3600 West Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC.

Joyce was born November 1, 1937 to the late Eugene and Alice Schoolfield. After graduating high school early, Joyce began working where she would meet and marry the love of her life, David until her next love was born, her son Dwayne. Joyce dedicated herself to family. She was a hard worker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and caring person to everyone with whom she came in contact throughout her life. After 35 years of dedicated employment with Southern Optical Company. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was one of their greatest supporters. A highlight of her life was being a part of their cheering section as they both received their college degrees. Celebrating the weddings of her grandchildren and the birthdays of her great-grandchildren brought her unspeakable joy and happiness. She loved her family and made it well known. “We love you Grandma and will miss you!”

Joyce is survived by her husband and best friend of sixty-one years, David G. DeVane; son David DeVane and wife Marsha; grandson Eric DeVane and wife Sara; granddaughter Lauren DeVane Parks and husband David; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Dylan, Collin, Brayden and Ella DeVane.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont at 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

Dwayne and Marsha would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers and support during the difficult time of Joyce’s illness. There are too many to mention by name but we thank God for blessing us with such wonderful family and friends!”
