Obituary of Shirley Hughes Staples

Shirley Hughes Staples, 83, of Kernersville passed away Wednesday March 13, 2019.

Funeral Services celebrating her life will be 2:00PM Friday March 15, 2019 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. George Freeman. Immediately following the service, entombment will take place at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.

Shirley was born August 12, 1935 in Norfolk, VA to the late James Edward Hughes and Clara Wood Hughes. She is also predeceased by her beloved husband, William T. “Bill” Staples; son, William Jeffrey Staples; and sisters, Ellen Zigler, Cornelia Blackley, and Nancy Blackley.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Teresa S. Braswell and husband Doug; grandchildren, Eric Staples, Will Mabe and wife Traci, Ashley Owen, Lyndsey Lipford, Brooke Hancock and husband Heath; great-grandchildren, Andrew Staples, Abbi Staples, Chase Mabe and fiancé Courtney Kurutz, Kirsten Mabe, Meri Staples, Luke Lipford, Paityn Hancock, Edith Owen, Noah Lipford, Wayne Owen, Ben Hancock; step great-grandchildren, Zach Day, Chasity Godfrey; great-great-granddaughter, Amira Staples; step great-great-granddaughter, Sophia Williamson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Shirley retired from Volvo Truck in Kernersville. She was known for her love of her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family.

The family will visit with friends prior to the service at the church on Friday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.
