Obituary of David G. DeVane
David G. “Buddy” DeVane, 90, of Colfax, NC passed away Monday March 11, 2019 at Hospice of the
Piedmont.
Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2019, at First Lutheran
Church, 3600 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410 with Rev. Jay Hilbinger officiating. The
family will greet friends prior to the service in the church parlor on Saturday from 10:00AM to 10:45AM.
A native of Sumter, SC, David was the son of Frank and Aline DeVane, both deceased and husband of the
late Joyce S. DeVane. David proudly completed a term in the US Air Force as a member of the 1453rd
Aero Med.Evac Squadron. After military service, he was employed and retired from Southern Optical
Co. completing 35 years. At Southern, he met his wife Joyce, the love of his life for 61 years. For many
years, David was a member of the Sedgefield Civitans, where he served two stints as club president.
You may have met him around town dropping off candy and picking up money from the Civitan candy
boxes sitting at the register of many local restaurants. David was a member of First Lutheran Church in
Greensboro and dearly loved his church. He was in charge of opening the church doors on Sunday
mornings and did that job with great pride. He also served as an usher and Sunday School account
volunteer. Mostly, David was loved by his family and friends. A kind, generous and gentle man with
abundant hugs and laughter!
David is survived by his son, Dwayne DeVane and wife, Marsha of Colfax, NC; grandson, Eric DeVane and
wife, Sara; granddaughter, Lauren DeVane Parks and husband, David; four beautiful great grandchildren,
Dylan, Collin, Brayden and Ella DeVane.
In addition to his wife and parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his twin sister, Jane Denny; sister,
Martha Groom; and brothers, Lewis DeVane and Bobby DeVane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester
Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
Dwayne and Marsha would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers and support during the difficult
time of David’s illness. “There are too many to mention by name, but we thank God for blessing us with
such wonderful family and friends!”
