Obituary of Rebecca Autry Turner

Rebecca Autry Turner passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 13, 2019, wife of Melvin Kenneth Turner who predeceased her in April 2005.

 

Daughter of Frank and Winifred Autry, born in High Point, NC in 1932, she was a graduate of High Point College, and taught school in the Guilford County School system for many years at Jamestown Elementary, Millis Road Elementary, and Union Hill Elementary, teaching 1st through 4th grades.

 

Rebecca was predeceased by her parents; brother, Frank Autry, Jr.; and sister, Lea Hocutt.  She is survived by her three children, Marvin Turner and wife, Elizabeth, David Turner, and Catherine Smith and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Meredith Turner Hughes and husband, Travis, Zachary Smith and wife, Amanda, and Sarah Smith and fiancé, Matt; and one great grandson, Turner Hughes.

 

She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville for the last 14 years since moving back to NC from Virginia, helping to teach the Dorcas Sunday school class, active in the Be Friendly group, and regularly visiting many shut-in members.

 

A celebration of life service will be held at First Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC on Saturday August 24th, 2019 at 11 a.m.  Family will greet guests at the church at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery in High Point.

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory of a new children’s book (grade K-5) which will be collected at the church, or memorial bequests may be made in her honor to Union Hill Elementary School (memo library book fund).
