I was fortunate to be able to work with Kay for the past 4 years at Piney Grove. As one of the first faculty members at PGE, Kay earned the love and respect of hundreds of students and their families over the years. Her dedication to “her babies” was inspirational for a generation of teachers lucky enough to have crossed paths with her. In her final years, Kay still managed to get to school (early most days so as to tutor struggling readers) to work her magic on her little ones. Many days she was in pain, but that minor setback hardly slowed her down. Kay was one of a kind!
The world is a better place having had Kay Pridgen in it, and I consider myself a better person and educator for having worked by her side.

I remember during my years as principal at PGE. Kay would come see me every morning because she always got to work early. Kay always had a joke and a smile to make me laugh. She was always so kind and encouraging. I’ll never forget her smile and her dedication to children.

I taught with Kay for 11 years at Piney Grove Elementary. Although it’s been over a decade ago, I remember a time when she did something to recognize me as a staff member. She probably never realized the impact that had on me, but she was a source of encouragement. She was a great teacher who impacted hundreds of lives during her tenure. Heaven gained an angel, and I know she is rejoicing with her Savior. God bless her family in this tremendous loss.

I was in Mrs Pridgen’s class in 2002 and still remember so many things that she had taught us throughout the year. Even to this day, I still would call her my favorite teacher and the reason I want to go into the education field. Sending my prayers to her family and friends. She will forever be missed.
