Ruth Jessup

Obituary of Ruth P. Jessup

Ruth Perdue Jessup passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Ruth was born in Greensboro on August 27, 1929 to the late William Houston Perdue and Janie Smith Perdue.  She married Teddy Walker Jessup in 1955, to whom she was married until his death in 1984.  While working at Jessup Service full time for 35 years and raising her children she remained active in her church, playing the piano and organ, serving as Sunday School teacher for adults and children and serving on many committees where there was a need.  Her service to her Lord and Savior was an example to many and was  instilled in her children.  She took her role as “Mammaw” seriously, helping to raise her grandson, Christopher.

Ruth was an excellent cook and specialized in apple pies.  She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, and photography.  Her greatest contribution, though, was her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.  Never one to draw attention to herself, Ruth’s quiet but consistent example of faith is her greatest legacy to her family and friends.  Although we will miss her, we know without a doubt that she is with Jesus today.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Perdue, and sisters, Virginia Bennett and Margaret Jessup.

Those left to cherish her memory are son, Rick Jessup (Angie), daughters Cindy Clark (Jeff) and Melissa Kirkman (David), grandson Christopher (Allison), and great-granddaughters Adelaide and Louise Jessup.  Also surviving are her special caregivers Jane Marshall and Tralla Brown.  Special thanks also to Julie Barr DNP, Hospice nurse Maura Barber, Debbie Garner and Hillary Irusta.

There will be a private graveside service celebrating her life.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Broadcasting Network (P.O. Box 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241) or Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/ruth-jessup-greensboro-nc/).
