I worked with Anita when she was a nurse on the renal unit at Cone. I was a nursing student, took a job as a CNA to make money and gain experience. Anita was always available and willing to take the time to teach a “baby” nurse. I had a lot of respect for her experience and knowledge. I am so sorry to hear of this great loss. I will remember her fondly.

Thank you for your sweet condolence. I am her niece who’s also a nurse and not only was she just the best person but she was the best nurse I ever knew. I wish there was some way for Cone to honor her after 28yrs there. I miss her so much. When you work as a nurse on the same unit for as many years as she did, your co-workers become your family in a way. I’m sure your unit is struggling with her loss as well.

Dave, I’m so sorry you’re hurting, grieving your wife you loved for many years through good times, bad times and raising 2 amazing young men. You’re still our family Dave and were here for you always. Johnathan and Jacob, you two were the lights of your mama’s eyes. I cannot imagine what you’re feeling, but know Sis loves you both and Kendall. Josh and I will always be there for you. Anita was the constant in our family. She was the glue that held us together. She was not my mama, but came pretty close to it. I remember her discipling me when I was younger. But she’s always been more than an aunt to me. I tried to emulate her mannerisms and behavior around patients and others. She taught me so much about being a nurse, but also how to treat people. I’m lucky I had my parents and her to learn those character traits and carry them on to my life. Anita treated all her patients the same. It didn’t matter your ethnic background, your race, your religion, your gender, a friend, a foe, a criminal, or police officer…she didn’t discriminate her care. She never played favorites. She cared for everyone the same as any nurse would do. I’m going to miss my aunt. No one will ever be able to fill the void she is leaving, but her family and friends must keep going to continue her legacy of love, care, and spreading kindness to others. I loved her so much, I still love her. Just because I won’t see her again till we meet in heaven, it doesn’t mean I stop loving her till then. Dave, Johnathan, Jacob, Kendall…we love you all, your families are here and our sadness and sympathy is with you and everyone who k ew her or was touched by her.
