Obituary of Gloria Faye Carroll Hood

Gloria Faye Carroll Hood, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went peacefully to her heavenly home on September 22, 2022. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Gloria, or as many called her Faye, was born on December 22, 1935, to Lucy and Malcolm Carroll in Johnston County, NC. She was a happy girl growing up on the family farm.

In December of 1954, she married John Hood and later moved to Greensboro.  Gloria went to work at Jefferson Standard Insurance for a few years before leaving work to raise her children.

One of her greatest joys was serving at Rankin Baptist Church. For many years she served as a Sunday School teacher and as historian.  She loved decorating for the “Happy Hearts” fellowships each month.

She leaves behind sons, David (Rita), and John (Ruth) of Browns Summit; daughter, Donna Szczytko (Aaron) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and son Eddie (Miriam) of Wentworth, NC. She had 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John Hood; brothers, J.D., Calvin, and Ben; sister, Pauline; and one granddaughter, Alayna.

The family will be at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Lambeth Chapel, 300 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27208 on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 5:00PM to-7:00PM.  The funeral service will at Rankin Baptist Church, 3317 Summit Ave, Greensboro NC 27405 at 2:00PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.  Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park following the service.
