Obituary of Mildred McCormick Swink

Mildred McCormick Swink, 87, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

A native of Fries, VA, Mildred was the wife of Francis “June” Swink, Jr. and the daughter of James McCormick and Gladys Byrd McCormick, both deceased. Momma dedicated her life to caring for others. First and foremost, her family and the many years she spent working in long-term care. Although our hearts are broken, we are rejoicing that she is with her Lord and Savior and whole again.

Survivors include her husband, June; two daughters, Cindy Utt Boone and husband, Kenneth, and Jenny Utt Childress and husband, Kip; two sons, Mike Utt and wife, Darlene, and Tim Utt and wife, Tammie; nine grandchildren, Caleb Boone, Luke Boone, Sarah Burton and husband, Josh, Brianna Childress, Michael Utt and wife, Amy, Sunni Love and husband, Connor, Teddi Short and husband, Charlie, Allen Utt and wife, Ashleigh, and Chris Utt and wife, Tosha; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Ted Utt; granddaughter, Michelle Boone; and five siblings, Tom "Jr." McCormick, Bob McCormick, Jim McCormick, Jerry McCormick, and Sally Crews.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Tim Utt officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Walkertown. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
