Barbara Butner

Obituary of Barbara Gene Benson Butner

Barbara Gene Benson Butner, born 8/27/41, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 21, 2024. She was receiving excellent care by the staff at Novant Hospital in Kernersville, while surrounded by love and prayers of her family.

A Time of Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held 2-5 pm Friday, March 29, 2024, at 6120 Spainhour Mill Road, Tobaccoville, NC 27050. This is the site of the Butner family homeplace where mom and dad met and fell in love. Family will be available from 2-3, with a brief service at 3 pm and then share a meal with family and friends after the service.

She was preceded to life eternal by her father Motto Zachary Benson, her mother Melissa Ilene Briggs Benson, her brother James Edward Benson and her husband of 64 years Robert Franklin Butner.

Barbara is survived by her children Sandra Jean Pardue (Terry) of King, Arnold Grey (Debbie) of Stokesdale, Penny Rosellen Evans (Allen) of Winston-Salem, Dora Elizabeth Bragg (Anthony) of Germanton, Robert Tobias (Nancy) of Pinnacle and Lois Ilene Loeser (Robert) of Newton. Barbara also leaves her 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren with 2 on the way, 3 great, great grandchildren, a loving Sister Cathy Marie Shelton, a sister-in-law Linda Benson along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barbara also leaves her wonderful friend Sarah Simmons.

She is also survived by her little loving pet Baby Girl.

Barbara lived her 82 years giving more than she took, taking care of everyone before herself and serving God above all by leading souls to the salvation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a great woman who cared for her family and friends and never said no to anyone if she could help. She was the best cook in the world and could make anything taste good. She left this world and faced her death unafraid with more dignity and grace than anyone we have ever known. Her time was truly in God’s hands. She was an amazing woman.

She loved Bob Butner and missed him more than she could ever explain. Bob and Barbara were a true love story and it will continue now that they are reunited in heaven. Barbara Butner will never be forgotten and will always be remembered as the spiciest, smartest and funniest, woman we ever knew.

May God’s peace and love be with you all.
