Obituary of Stephen Gibson

Mr. Stephen A. 'Sonny' Gibson Jr., 77, of Greensboro, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Wesley Long Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service with Pastor Randy Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Mr. Gibson was born in Guilford County to the late Stephen (Sr.) and Evelyn Clapp Gibson. He married his childhood sweetheart, Lois Shore Gibson and was a member of Willowmore Baptist Church. He was a running back for Bessemer High School, participated in the Golden Gloves Tournament, was a building inspector for Guilford County, ran for County Commissioner and was a member of the NRA. He loved the outdoors, golf, fishing, hunting, training bird dogs, braking horses, he even kept bees and made honey. Mr. Gibson is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Lois Shore Gibson; daughters, Beth Rendleman (Chuck) of McLeansville and Jill Chambers (Del) of Greensboro; sister, Peggy Barber (Kenneth) of Jamestown; granddaughters, Ashley Brown (Kevin), Melissa Spaugh (Austin) and Sunny Staley (Travis); great-grandson, Chase Brown. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 Sunday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home prior to the service.
